The Deputy Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Mr Luke Au Yeung, today (December 7) signed a Consumer Goods Safety Co-operation Arrangement with the Director-General of the Department of Supervision on Inspection of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China, Mr Wang Xin, in Beijing to strengthen co-operation in regulating the safety of general consumer goods, including food contact materials, toys and children's products.
Under the Arrangement, both administrations agree to enhance the exchange of intelligence on unsafe consumer goods supplied in the Mainland and Hong Kong and to share enforcement experience among officials. They will also promote product safety at international levels by assisting exporters to comply with the safety requirements adopted by the European Union (EU) when exporting food contact materials to the EU.
