Hong Kong Customs yesterday (April 8) seized about 770 grams of suspected cocaine and about 230g of suspected crack cocaine with an estimated market value of about $1.5 million in Kwai Chung.
During an anti-narcotics operation conducted yesterday afternoon, Customs officers intercepted a man in Kwai Chung and found about 20g of suspected cocaine in his backpack. He was then arrested. Customs officers later escorted the arrested man to a nearby industrial premises, where a search was carried out and about 750g of suspected cocaine, about 230g of suspected crack cocaine and a batch of drug packaging paraphernalia were further seized.
The arrested man, aged 26, is holding charged with two counts of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (April 10).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
