Customs officers seized 1800 tablets of suspected ecstasy and 6 kg of suspected "ice" with total worth of $2.6 million in three anti-narcotic operations conducted from January 2 to 7. Four men, aged between 36 and 51, were arrested.
First on January 2, Customs Officers from Airport Command found 1000 ecstasy tablets in two parcels sent from Holland to Hong Kong. Following in-depth investigations, officers from Customs Drug Investigation Bureau arrested a 47-year-old man, and seized from his apartment in Mong Kok another 800 ecstasy tablets. The total seizure was worth about $200,000 if retailed.
Separately, 6 kg of "ice" worth $2.4 million were seized during two operations conducted in the Airport on January 5 and 7 respectively.
On January 5, Customs officers intercepted two men, aged 50 and 51, who were about to board a plane heading for New Zealand, and found from the 51-year-old man 4 kg of "ice" worth about $1.6 million.
In another operation today (January 7), Customs officer arrested a 36-year-old man on package tour to Japan for having carried 2 kg of ice worth about $800,000.
All men arrested in the three operations carry Hong Kong Identity Cards. Customs officers are continuing investigation and may lay charges against them.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence with maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
