Hong Kong Customs yesterday (December 13) seized about 1.2 kilograms of suspected crack cocaine and about 2.2kg of suspected cannabis buds with a total estimated market value of about $2.2 million in Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai. A 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman, both suspected to be connected with the case, were arrested.
During an anti-narcotics operation conducted in the vicinity of Yuen Long yesterday afternoon, Customs officers intercepted a man and found about 1kg of suspected crack cocaine inside a paper bag carried by him. The man was then arrested. Customs officers later escorted the man to a nearby residential flat rented by him for a search and further seized about 550 grams of suspected cannabis buds and a batch of drug packaging paraphernalia therein. A woman in the flat suspected to be connected with the case was also arrested.
Upon follow-up investigation, Customs officers on the same day further seized about 160g of suspected crack cocaine and about 1.6kg of suspected cannabis buds in the arrested man's residence in Tin Shui Wai.
An investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
