Hong Kong Customs seized about five kilograms of suspected cannabis resin worth about $500,000 at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (December 6) and arrested an incoming male passenger.
The man arrived in Hong Kong from Kolkata, India via Kunming, Yunnan. During baggage examination, Customs officers found the suspected cannabis resin inside 14 packages of instant noodles.
The arrested male, aged 49, claimed to be a businessman. He was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (December 8).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
