Hong Kong Customs has seized about 1 100 bottles of suspected counterfeit make-up removing solution valued at about $120,000 during a series of operations in the past three weeks.
Acting on information from a trademark owner, Customs conducted a series of strike-and-search operations in various districts in Hong Kong in the past three weeks. Twelve retail outlets were raided with a total seizure of about 1 100 bottles of suspected counterfeit make-up removing solution valued at about $120,000. Seven men and nine women, aged between 24 and 58, were arrested. They were released on bail pending further investigation.
The Head of the Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau, Ms Louise Ho, said today (July 22) that Hong Kong Customs would continue to take stringent enforcement actions to combat counterfeiting activities.
She also advised consumers to contact the distributor or report to Customs if the authenticity of their purchased products was in doubt. Retailers should also be cautious and prudent in merchandising.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, it is an offence to sell or possess for sale any goods with any forged trademark. Upon conviction, offenders are liable to a maximum punishment of imprisonment for five years and a fine of $500,000.
Anyone with information relating to suspected counterfeiting activities may call Customs via the 24-hour hotline 2545 6182.
