Officers of Customs Drug Investigation Bureau of the Customs and Excise Department conducted an anti-narcotics operation in Mongkok yesterday (March 23).
During the operation, Customs officers intercepted for a search a 29-year-old female at the entrance of a building in Canton Road, Mongkok. As a result, Customs officers found a small amount of No. 4 Heroin on her, and subsequent premises search in the same building led to the crackdown of a multi-drugs distribution centre, where about 50 grams of Methamphetamine (commonly named as ‘Ice’), 20grams of No.4 Heroin, small quantity of psychotic drugs with an estimated retail value of $50,000 and some packing tools were seized. Another 27-year-old female was arrested. It is believed the centre supplied various kinds of dangerous drugs to drugs addicts in Mongkok.
The arrested persons will be jointly charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. They will appear at Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court today (March 24).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
