Hong Kong Customs seized about two kilogrammes of suspected cocaine with a value of about $2.3 million at Hong Kong International Airport today (July 15) and arrested an incoming female passenger.
The arrested person arrived at Hong Kong from Sao Paulo, Brazil, via Dubai today. During Customs clearance, Customs officers found her gait unnatural. Upon further checking, about two kilogrammes of suspected cocaine were found wrapped around her thighs and concealed inside a tailor-made underwear she was wearing.
The 51-year-old female arrestee, who claimed to be a baby-sitter, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. She will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (July 16).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
