Customs yesterday (April 2) arrested a Filipino woman and seized 680 grams of heroin, with an estimated local retail value of $0.5 million, at the Hong Kong International Airport.
Customs officers intercepted the woman arriving from Kuala Lumpur for inspection and found the packet of drugs in the concealed compartment of her rucksack.
The woman, aged 33, will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. She will appear at Shatin Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (April 4).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
