Customs seized about 10 kilograms of methamphetamine (ice), worth about $7.6 million, and arrested four persons in an anti-drug trafficking operation in Lok Ma Chau yesterday (April 28).
Yesterday afternoon, Customs Officers intercepted an incoming private vehicle at Lok Ma Chau Control Point for clearance and uncovered the drug in the baggage of the three passengers in the vehicle.
Three of the arrested, two Malaysian men and one Malaysian woman, aged between 27 and 36, will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear in Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (April 30). The male driver, a 41-year-old local resident, has been released on police bail pending investigations.
A spokesman for Customs and Excise Department said that Customs Officers stayed vigilant at all times to foil attempts by drug traffickers who might take advantage of the busy passenger and cargo flows at the control points.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
