Customs arrested a man and seized three kilogrammes of ketamine, with an estimated street value of $348,000, at Lo Wu Control Point yesterday (June 17).
Customs officers intercepted the man for inspection at the Customs Arrival Hall of Lo Wu Control Point yesterday afternoon and found the drugs in his handbag. The man, aged 48, unemployed, was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (June 19).
Customs has strengthened enforcement actions at all control points in support of the Government's territory-wide efforts to combat drug problems. Customs officers will heighten alert at all times to foil attempts by drug traffickers in taking advantage of the heavy flow of passengers and cargoes at the control points.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, Chapter 134, Laws of Hong Kong, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
