Hong Kong Customs yesterday (March 21) arrested two outgoing passengers and seized about 4.1 kilogrammes of methamphetamine (ice), with a value of about $1.75 million, at the Hong Kong International Airport.
Officers of the Customs Drug Investigation Bureau yesterday found the drugs from the concealed compartments in the luggage of two female passengers, who were about to depart for Auckland, New Zealand, at the airport. The two suspects, aged 18 and 22, both claimed as unemployed, will be jointly charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. They will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts on March 24.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
Hong Kong Customs will continue to step up anti-narcotics enforcement against transnational drugs trafficking activities so as to prevent drug-trafficking activities through the Hong Kong International Airport.
