Hong Kong Customs seized about 950 grams of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated market value of about $520,000 at Hong Kong International Airport on July 25.
Customs officers inspected an express parcel from Malaysia on July 25 and seized about 950g of suspected methamphetamine concealed inside the metal frames of a baby chair.
After follow-up investigation, Customs officers yesterday (August 7) arrested a 47-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man in Tsing Yi, who are suspected to be related to the case. A set of drug-inhaling apparatus was further seized from the arrested woman's residential premises in Tsing Yi. Customs officers also seized a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine and a set of drug-inhaling apparatus in the arrested man's possession.
Investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
