Hong Kong Customs today (May 4) seized about 2.5 kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine (ice) at Lok Ma Chau Control Point and arrested a man. The market value of the drugs was about $1.1 million.
Customs officers found five bags of suspected methamphetamine weighing in a total of about 2.5 kilogrammes inside a food gift box carried by an incoming male passenger during passenger clearance at midnight.
The arrestee, aged 20, claimed as unemployed, will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and appear at Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (May 5).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
