Hong Kong Customs yesterday (January 4) arrested a woman at the Hong Kong International Airport and seized about two kilogrammes of heroin with an estimated value of about $1.5 million.
Customs officers yesterday afternoon intercepted the woman arriving from Malaysia for baggage examination and the heroin was found inside a hidden compartment of her suitcase.
The 31-year-old woman, who claimed to be a kindergarten teacher, was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (January 5).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
