Hong Kong Customs yesterday (March 24) seized about 2 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated market value of about $1.1 million at Hong Kong International Airport.
A 57-year-old male passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Johannesburg, South Africa via Dubai, the United Arab Emirates yesterday evening. Upon examination of his check-in suitcase, Customs officers found the suspected methamphetamine inside the false compartment of the suitcase. He was then arrested.
Investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
