Hong Kong Customs seized in total about 14 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $14 million during two operations conducted on March 16 and yesterday (March 19).
On March 16, Customs officers raided a unit of an industrial building in To Kwa Wan and found a parcel arriving from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, via the Mainland. After in-depth examination, suspected cocaine weighing about 12kg in total was seized from a noodle-making machine packed in the parcel.
Upon subsequent investigations, Customs officers searched four residential flats in Tuen Mun yesterday and seized about 2kg of suspected cocaine and a batch of packing paraphernalia in one of the flats. Two men, aged 29 and 38 respectively, were arrested during the operation.
Investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
