Hong Kong Customs smashed a suspected smuggling case at Lok Ma Chau Control Point yesterday (September 29) and seized 160 smartphones of the latest iPhone 6 model with a total value of about $0.89 million.
Customs officers intercepted an outgoing lorry for inspection at Lok Ma Chau Control Point yesterday afternoon. The smartphones were found concealed inside the overhead storage of the driving cabin. The 45-year-old male driver was arrested and charged after investigation.
Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for attempting to export unmanifested cargo is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for 7 years.
