Hong Kong Customs yesterday (November 16) seized about 2 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $1.84 million at Hong Kong International Airport.
A 24-year-old female passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Tanzania via Ethiopia yesterday afternoon. Upon examination of her hand-carry baggage, Customs officers found the suspected cocaine inside the false compartment of the hand-carry baggage. She was then arrested.
Upon follow-up investigation, Customs officers yesterday evening arrested another woman, aged 33 and suspected to be involved in the case, in Tai Kok Tsui.
Investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
