Hong Kong Customs today (November 7) seized about 2.3 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $2.1 million at Hong Kong International Airport.
A 40-year-old female passenger arrived in Hong Kong from São Paulo, Brazil, via Amsterdam, the Netherlands, this afternoon. Upon examination of her check-in rucksack, Customs officers found one slab of suspected cocaine weighing about 2.3kg wrapped with sponge inside the false compartment of the rucksack. She was then arrested.
Investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
