Hong Kong Customs today (April 22) conducted an operation against the sale of counterfeit kids clothing products on social networking platforms and dedicated websites. More than 1,000 pieces of suspected counterfeit kids clothing products were seized.
During a cyber patrol conducted earlier, Customs officers discovered sellers offering suspected counterfeit kids clothing products on the internet. Investigation revealed that the sellers also operated physical shops or direct sales centres in Hong Kong. Raids were conducted today against three retail outlets suspected of selling counterfeit kids clothing products. More than 1,000 pieces of suspected counterfeit kids clothing products with an estimated value of about $60,000 were seized.
Two men and two women, aged between 27 and 63, were arrested for selling or in possession of counterfeit goods for the purpose of trade. The arrested persons include two salespersons and two proprietors. Investigation is ongoing.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, it is an offence to sell or possess for sale any goods with a forged trademark. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
