Hong Kong Customs yesterday (February 23) seized about 3.2 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds and a small quantity of suspected cannabis with an estimated market value of $625,000 in Tai Wai.
During an anti-narcotics operation in Tai Wai yesterday afternoon, Customs officers intercepted a man and found the suspected cannabis buds and suspected cannabis inside his two private vehicles. The 23-year-old man was then arrested. After investigation, Customs officers further seized a small quantity of suspected cannabis buds at the man's residential premises and arrested a 56-year-old man in the premises.
Both arrested men claimed to be unemployed. Investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
