Hong Kong Customs conducted a strike-and-search operation in Central today (January 22). More than 4 000 pieces of suspected counterfeit products with an estimated market value of about $530,000 were seized.
Customs is stepping up enforcement actions against counterfeiting activities before Lunar New Year period. A strike-and-search operation was conducted in Central today. During the operation, two hawker stalls selling suspected counterfeit products were raided and two vehicles used as mobile storage were searched. More than 4 000 pieces of suspected counterfeit products, including clothing were seized. Two men and two women aged between 37 and 47 were arrested. Investigation is ongoing.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, any person who sells or possesses for sale any goods with forged trademark commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
Customs will continue to take stringent enforcement actions against counterfeiting activities and step up patrolling and enforcement actions during Lunar New Year period.
