Hong Kong Customs yesterday (October 12) seized a total of about 6 kilograms (kg) of suspected cannabis buds, with a value of about $1.31 million, and arrested a man during an anti-narcotics operation in Tuen Mun.
Customs officers intercepted a man in Tuen Mun yesterday afternoon. About 800 grams of suspected cannabis buds were found from him and the man was then arrested. Later on, Customs officers searched the arrested man’s residential premises and about 5.2 kg of suspected cannabis buds as well as a batch of packaging paraphernalia were further seized.
The arrested man, aged 48, claimed to be unemployed. The case is still under investigation.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
