A cross-border lorry driver was jailed by a court yesterday (July 14) for 25 years for drug trafficking.
The lorry driver threw a package of methamphetamine ("ice") weighing about 3 kilogrammes from the lorry’s window onto the pavement when entering Hong Kong via Lok Ma Chau Control Point on July 24, 2015. The market value of the seizure was about $860,000. Customs officers later identified the suspect through the closed-circuit television footage at the Control Point and subsequently arrested the 55-year-old male driver.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
