Hong Kong Customs today (March 22) foiled a drug trafficking attempt by two passengers at Hong Kong International Airport and seized 12 kilograms of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of about $8.56 million. Two foreign men, aged 44 and 40, were arrested in the operation.
Customs officers early this morning intercepted two outgoing male passengers, who intended to depart to Korea, at the departure hall of the airport. The officers found the methamphetamine concealed in the interlining of two diving suits in the passengers' check-in suitcases.
The two arrested men, who both claimed to be unemployed, will be each charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (March 23).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
