24 Nov 2008

The Customs and Excise Department today (November 24) reminded importers and exporters that import and export declarations for shipments on or after January 1, 2009 must be completed in accordance with an amended classification made to the current edition of the Hong Kong Imports and Exports Classification List (Harmonized System).

The amendments, published in the Gazette on November 21, will take effect on January 1, 2009.

They involve 29 commodity items, mainly including edible preparations, petroleum products, chemicals, plastics and articles of plastics, mechanical appliances, optical elements and checking instruments, articles for games as well as collections of postage.

These amendments will bring the classification more in line with current requirements through the introduction and adoption of more appropriate sub-classifications.
