Customs officers seized from a speedpost parcel from Sao Paulo, Brazil, a total of 2.1 kilogrammes of cocaine with estimated market value of about $2.18 million at the airport on Sunday (February 24). The drugs were concealed inside 30 printer parts.
During the follow-up investigation, Customs officers arrested one foreign male yesterday (February 26).
The arrestee, aged 27-year-old, claimed to be unemployed. He was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court today (February 27).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, the maximum penalty for drug trafficking is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
