Hong Kong Customs yesterday (October 14) smashed a suspected cannabis growing den in Kwun Tong. Suspected cannabis plants and other suspected dangerous drugs with an estimated market value of about $900,000 were seized. One man was arrested.
During an anti-narcotics operation conducted yesterday afternoon, Customs officers raided two units of an industrial building in Kwun Tong where some suspected cannabis growing equipment were found, including solar lamps, ventilation facilities, thermometers and hygrometers. Sixteen suspected cannabis plants, small quantities of suspected cannabis buds and other types of suspected dangerous drugs, including ketamine, ecstasy and heroin, were also seized.
A 19-year-old man was arrested and further 5 grams of suspected cannabis buds were found inside his rucksack.
Investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, both cultivation of cannabis and trafficking in a dangerous drug are serious offences. The maximum penalty for cultivation of cannabis is a fine of $100,000 and imprisonment for 15 years, and that for trafficking in a dangerous drug is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
