Hong Kong Customs seized about 13.7 kilograms of suspected ketamine with an estimated market value of about $6.4 million in Cheung Sha Wan on September 30. A woman was arrested.
During an anti-narcotics operation made on that day in Cheung Sha Wan, Customs officers intercepted a woman and escorted her to a factory unit for further search. Inside the unit, officers found 20 boxes of durian and discovered about 13.7 kilograms of suspected ketamine inside the durian seeds. The 19-year-old woman was then arrested.
The arrested woman has been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (October 3).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
