Customs officers at Hong Kong International Airport this morning (March 1) seized from an arriving South African woman 20 kg herbal cannabis, which could fetch about $680,000 if retailed in local market.
About 8.30am, Customs officers intercepted a 30-year-old woman who had arrived in Hong Kong from Johannesburg, South Africa. They seized from her luggage 20 slabs of herbal cannabis, weighing a total of 20 kilograms.
The woman will be charged with one count of "trafficking in a dangerous drug" and appear in Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (March 2).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
