Hong Kong Customs detects suspected smartphone smuggling case at Lok Ma Chau Control Point (with photo)

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (March 29) detected a suspected smuggling case at Lok Ma Chau Control Point and seized 50 smartphones with a total value of about $170,000.

Customs officers intercepted an outgoing lorry for Customs clearance at Lok Ma Chau Control Point yesterday evening. During the inspection, 50 smartphones were found on the driver. The 58-year-old male driver was arrested.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for attempting to import or export unmanifested cargo is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
