Hong Kong Customs seized about 1.8 kilograms of suspected cocaine with a market value of about $2 million at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (March 17) and arrested an incoming female passenger.
The arrested woman arrived at Hong Kong from Rio de Janerio, Brazil via Dubai, United Arab Emirates. During personal search, Customs officers found 1 pellet of about 1.4 kilograms of suspected cocaine concealed inside the underpants she wore. Later upon examination by medical officer, 1 more pellet of about 400 grams of suspected cocaine was found concealed inside her vagina.
The arrested woman, aged 42, who claimed to be a salesperson, was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. She will appear at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (March 19).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
