From 2023 to March 2024, by conducting test-buy operations and deploying a Quick Response Team, Customs successfully effected 9 cases involving  salespersons of medicine shops who had engaged in unfair trade practices by making misleading omissions in the course of selling Chinese medicines, or applying false trade descriptions in the course of selling passing-off products by claiming the products as genuine.

Customs has established a Quick Response Team to handle urgent complaints lodged by short-haul visitors. The complaints will be promptly referred to investigators to handle with priority.

Tips for Procuring Products at Medicine Shops

The Consumer Goods Safety Regulation stipulates that any warning or caution with respect to the safe keeping, use, consumption or disposal of any consumer goods must be given in both English and Chinese. Besides, the warning or caution phrases must be legibly and conspicuously shown on the goods or its package. Consumers should pay special attention when using consumer goods with potential hazard.

《消費品安全規例》規定，消費品如有安全存放、使用、耗用或處置的警告或警誡，必須以中文及英文表達，而有關表達須清楚可讀和放置於消費品或包裝部份的顯眼處。消費者在使用有潛在危險的消費品時，須提高警覺。

消費品安全知多啲 警告標籤勿忽視

- Wording such as "Warning", "Caution" are common identifiers of safety warning labels
- Safety warnings may be found on product packaging or in document enclosed inside
- Read safety warnings carefully before using product
- Not all consumer goods require a safety warning label
- If you have any questions about the safety warnings, ask the retailer concerned
- Ask for and retain transaction receipts for follow-up action
