Hong Kong Customs has implemented the “Integrated Health and Exercise Programme” (Programme) to replace the Annual Physical Fitness Test since June 2023. To foster a culture of physical fitness and encourage all staff to integrate exercise into their daily routines, Hong Kong Customs has actively implemented the Programme through multiple aspects.
( 1 ) Producing and promoting workout demonstration videos
Honorary Advisor to Hong Kong Customs College, Dr Louie Lobo Hung-tak, proposed a series of five chapters on physical exercises for Customs work, including cargo handling, passenger handling, marine, office duties and domestic environments. Some demonstration videos have already been uploaded onto the department’s portal.
( 2 ) Organising sports promotion activities
( A )C&ED Sports and Recreation Club Promotion
The AGM of Sports and Recreation (S&R) Club took place on 23 January 2024. The Hong Kong Customs & Excise Dragon and Lion Dance Association performed a dragon dance to kick off the event. The AGM appointed the then Deputy Commissioner (Management and Strategic Development) of Customs and Excise, Mr Lai Lau-pak, as the Honorary President of the club, honouring his support to the sports and recreation activities. After the AGM, various activities and demonstration were arranged for the participants.
( B ) Sports and Recreation photo competition
The first Sports and Recreation photo competition featured with 4 themes: "Touching Moments", "Sunny Smiles", "Legends of Movement" and "Close Cooperation". The winning photos are proudly displayed in the lobby on the ground floor of the Customs Headquarters Building.
( C ) Talk on physical and mental health
■Dr Fung Chi-yan from the Hong Kong College of Cardiology is invited to deliver a talk on "Preventive measures to mitigate the development of cardiovascular disease".
( 3 )Health management mobile application
Hong Kong Customs organized a talk to promote the "Nutrition Calculator" mobile app. We are also exploring the development of a dedicated mobile health app for staff to conveniently monitor their well-being.
( 4 ) Use of fitness monitoring equipment
To facilitate staff in monitoring their physical conditions, various fitness monitoring equipment, such as blood pressure monitors and body fat scales, have been purchased and made available in workplaces across all formations.
( 5 ) Customs Fitness Club activities
The Customs Fitness Club organized “Ten Thousand Steps a Day - Family Edition”, Yoga class, “Disciplined Services Tug Of War Competition” to promote regular workouts and self-practice among Customs colleagues.
