False claim on mileage reading of second-hand vehicles

Since travel mileage is one of the important factors in determining the market value of a second-hand vehicle, there were a number of cases related to car dealers who supplied second-hand vehicles with false travelling mileage reading in order to increase the market values. Apart from violating the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, it might cause harm to road users due to concealment of actual vehicle condition. Hong Kong Customs attaches great importance to the protection of consumer rights and adopts a multi-pronged strategy to combat this malpractice.
