Disaster Relief: Customs Volunteers Assist Flood Victims

Senior Customs Officer, Cheong Chi-kuan, joined the Hong Kong Disciplined Services Volunteer Corps in 2019. Following severe flooding in Fu Tei Au Tsuen during a Black Rainstorm last year, he proactively participated in post-disaster relief efforts. Despite facing sewage backflows and thick mud that infected his eyes due to lack of protective gear, he found deep satisfaction in helping the villagers recover.

Similarly, Senior Customs Officer, Kwan Siu-kwong, described his experience as different from typical volunteer work. To help restore normalcy for the villagers, he and fellow volunteers moved heavy and damaged furniture under sweltering conditions. The smiles of the villagers made the arduous task worthwhile, reminding that the ability to help others is a true blessing.
