Tips for buying Precious Accessories Distinguish Gold from Platinum well

Gold and platinum are both precious metals, with platinum being silver-coloured. Their chemical symbols are Au (gold) and Pt (platinum).

According to the Trade Descriptions (Marking) (Gold and Gold Alloy) Order and Trade Descriptions (Marking) (Platinum) Order, gold and platinum articles must display a mark indicating their fineness.

Only gold with a fineness of at least 999/1000 parts by weight can be labeled as "足金" (Chuk Kam), and platinum with a fineness of at least 990/1000 parts by weight can be labeled as "足白金/足鉑金" (Chuk Pak Kam).

Markings such as Au750 (750 parts gold) and P1990 (990 parts platinum) should be clearly visible on articles.

Friendly Reminder from "Zero-tolerant Ninja"

Be aware of the fineness standards and ensure the following information is stated on the invoice:

■ Name and address of supplier

■ Selling Price

■ Details of the article

■ Date of supply

■ Fineness mark

■ Weight
