On 29 June 2024, Hong Kong Customs was elected as the Vice-Chairperson for the Asia/Pacific (A/P) Region of the World Customs Organization (WCO) at the Customs Co-operation Council Sessions of the WCO, officially assuming this role as regional representative in July for a term of two years until June 2026. Main responsibilities of the Vice-Chairperson include driving regional development agendas, coordinating regional affairs, leading members in addressing various challenges and facilitating the formulation and implementation of regional strategic plans. Taking the lead through this role by Hong Kong Customs in promoting co-operation among the A/P region is strategically significant. It can deepen Hong Kong's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen the collaboration between Hong Kong and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
