To strengthen the capabilities of Hong Kong Customs in anti-money laundering and counter-financing of terrorism, the existing Financial Investigation Group has upgraded to the Customs Financial Investigation Bureau (CFIB), effective 1 August. The newly set up CFIB, with 91 officers commanded by a Senior Staff Officer, is responsible for formulating the overall strategies and operational tactics to fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.
CFIB will strive to enhance cooperation and intelligence exchange with local and foreign law enforcement agencies and financial institutions, to tracing the illicit fund flows, freeze and confiscate criminal proceeds more timely and effectively.
