The Chief Executive announced in his 2022 Policy Address that the Government will reinforce intermodal transport by integrating air, sea and land transport to strengthen the key role played by Hong Kong in the logistics chain of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The Airport Authority Hong Kong is actively taking forward various projects and adopting the intermodal transport mode to enhance connectivity between the airport and the GBA cities. It has set up the “Hong Kong International Airport Logistics Park” in Dongguan and the “Airside Intermodal Air Cargo Handling Facility” at the Hong Kong International Airport to facilitate sea-air cargo transshipment between Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. Under this pilot scheme, Customs provides one-stop customs clearance service for sea-air transshipment cargoes and applies technology to reduce the need for cargo inspection under manageable smuggling risks. These measures can expedite the cross-boundary flow of transshipment cargoes and uphold Hong Kong’s role as a logistics hub.
Sea-air transshipment cargoes are conveyed by a vessel to Airside Intermodal Air Cargo Handling Facility.
