Customs officers of Lok Ma Chau Control Point today (November 8) foiled a smuggling case and seized 159 unmanifested computer hard disks with total estimated value around $79,000.
At about 12.24 pm, Customs officers of Lok Ma Chau Control Point intercepted and searched an outgoing private car. As a result, the officer seized the unmanifested computer hard disks found concealed inside the upholstery of the private car. A 44-year-old driver was arrested.
Any person found exporting unmanifested cargo out of Hong Kong will be charged under the Import and Export Ordinance with "attempting to export unmanifested cargoes". Upon conviction, the maximum penalty is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment of seven years.
