The Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Ms Louise Ho, and the Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia (Cambodia Customs), Dr Kun Nhem, signed a Memorandum of Understanding Regarding Co-operation and Mutual Administrative Assistance (MoU) today (September 16). It is the first MoU signed digitally by Hong Kong Customs in a virtual meeting with another Customs administration.
Hong Kong Customs and Cambodia Customs spare no effort to foster stronger mutual collaboration under the COVID-19 pandemic. During the signing ceremony, Ms Ho noted that the signing of the MoU symbolises the common wishes between the two sides to enhance bilateral co-operation in different areas.
The signing of the MoU paves the way for strengthening intelligence exchange to combat cross-border crimes. It also steps up information sharing to promote closer ties in trade facilitation and creates a business-friendly environment for legitimate trade activities.
Hong Kong Customs has separately concluded an MoU with the Directorate General of Customs and Indirect Taxes of the Republic of the Congo in August 2022. Currently, 29 similar co-operative instruments have come into effect between Hong Kong Customs and other Customs administrations, including the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China and 28 overseas Customs administrations.
