Customs arrested a Filipino and seized one kilogramme of heroin, with an estimated local retail value of $770,000, at the Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (June 16).
Customs officers intercepted the man arriving from Manila last night and found the drug concealed in his suitcase.
The arrested man, 38, and claiming to be a businessman, will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. He will appear in Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (June 18).
Under the ordinance, the maximum penalty for drug trafficking is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
