Hong Kong Customs yesterday (May 20) arrested two outgoing passengers at Hong Kong International Airport and seized about 2.1 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine with a market value of about $0.63 million.
Officers of Customs Drug Investigation Bureau yesterday intercepted two male passengers who were about to depart for Jakarta, Indonesia, at the airport. Customs officers found a batch of ceramic products inside their check-in baggage which aroused suspicion. In-depth examination led to the discovery of this batch of dangerous drugs concealed inside the ceramic products.
Both male arrestees, aged 34 and 22, who claimed to be electrical technician and automobile technician respectively, will be jointly charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts on Monday (May 23).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
